Hazard Mitigation (HM)
The Mitigation Section maintains the State Hazard Mitigation Plan, reviews local mitigation plans, and provides hazard mitigation training for local officials. In the aftermath of major disasters, TDEM Mitigation Section staff members deploy to the Joint Field Office to set up disaster recovery operations and coordinate planning for post-disaster mitigation programs with their federal counterparts and with local officials.
TDEM’s Mitigation staff administers the Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program, Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program and a large number of post-disaster Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. BRIC is a new FEMA pre-disaster hazard mitigation program that is replacing the existing Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) program.
