Major Disaster Declaration declared on July 17, 2019

Severe storms from June 24-25, 2019, caused flooding in South Texas. Governor Greg Abbott requested a declaration for Individual Assistance for three counties and Hazard Mitigation statewide on July 10, 2019. President Donald Trump declared that a major disaster existed in the State of Texas on July 17, 2019.

Federal Individual Assistance was approved for Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties.

Funding Opportunities

TDEM accepted applications for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program through November 13, 2020. Eligible sub-applicants included state agencies, local governments, tribal governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations. All entities seeking funding under this opportunity must have a FEMA approved Hazard Mitigation Action Plan at the time the project is submitted to FEMA for consideration and at the time an award is made except for projects to develop or update mitigation plans. An exception to this requirement may be requested on a case-by-case basis in accordance with FEMA’s 2015 HMA Guidance.
