The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) announced today that the agency has deployed state wildfire response resources in anticipation of increased wildfire danger expected across the western half of Texas today.
“The deployment of wildfire resources across Texas underscores our commitment to protecting lives and property during this heightened wildfire threat,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “With dry conditions and increased fire weather risks, it is critical for Texans to remain vigilant, avoid activities that could spark fires, and follow guidance from local emergency officials. Together, we can reduce risks and ensure safety of ourselves and our communities. The first responders working day and night are never far from my mind and I want to thank them for their dedication and commitment of keeping us all safe.”
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, there is an increased potential for wildfires across large portions of the state including the Panhandle, Permian Basin, and West Texas regions. Dry, dormant grasses, and elevated to critical fire weather conditions, including winds that could gust above 55 miles per hour, will heighten the risk of wildfire activity across these areas.
TDEM has activated the following firefighting resources to support local wildfire response operations:
