HOUSTON - Acting Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following severe weather in Southeast Texas yesterday:
“Yesterday, a storm system brought flash flooding, large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes to Southeast Texas, causing property and agricultural damage. There is one confirmed fatality, and several injuries reported across the region. Please join Jan and me in prayer for the impacted families and their communities.
“There are some localized, provider-related power outages. State officials are working to ensure electrical providers quickly restore power to all impacted Texans as quickly as possible.
“Texas state agencies are working hard to help their fellow Texans and have begun to assess the damage.”
More than 300 responders and over 180 assets were deployed by the state of Texas in support of the state’s storm response, including search and rescue personnel, boat squads with rescue swimmers, and roadway safety equipment. State emergency response and recovery resources remain engaged to support any requests for assistance from local officials in those areas. Volunteer organizations have also mobilized to support community needs.
Initial damage assessments are underway and ongoing. Texans impacted by severe weather are urged to report damage using the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) online survey by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov. Reporting damage to TDEM will help officials identify immediate needs.
The State of Texas continues to take action to provide all available resources to help support local communities from the impacts of severe weather.
